Jose Mourinho is supposedly ordering his scouts to keep a close eye on the performances of the talented 21-year-old, who has also been targeted by Arsenal and Manchester United in recent times.

The Portuguese coach sees Mings as a possible candidate to come in and be a long-term replacement for the ageing John Terry, who may be nearing the end of his terrific career at Stamford Bridge.

The 34-year-old has been in fine form for the Blues this season, but it is no surprise to see the club planning for the future as they look to strengthen at the back with some top young talent.

20-year-old French centre-back Kurt Zouma was brought to Chelsea during the summer, and Mings would be another fine addition based on his tremendous displays in the Championship in recent times.

The former Southampton trainee has mostly played at left-back for Ipswich, but Mourinho is seemingly confident that he could have the attributes to move into the centre and be a success in that position instead.
