Castrillon has spent most of his career playing in his native Colombia, racking up 276 appearances for Independiente Medellin, scoring 53 times. He is also a well-regarded former Colombia international – making 29 appearances for the Colombian national team between 2004 and 2007, scoring five goals in the process.

He already has experience of playing in the US. He moved to MLS side Colorado Rapids in 2012, playing there for two years. He led the club’s scoring charts with eight goals during the 2012 season, but scored only once in eleven appearances during 2013 after a serious knee injury required surgery.
