Manchester United On The Verge Of Confirming Experienced New Signing

Victor Valdes set to move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are set to kick off their January spending early, with reports from the Daily Star suggesting that the Red Devils are on the verge of completing a move to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer after he spent time training with the club.

Valdes, who had been number one at the Nou Camp for a decade before being released this summer, has been injured since the tail end of last season but linked up with United recently to step up his rehabilitation and return to training, leading to speculation that he was about to join to provide competition to compatriot David de Gea, with Dane Anders Lindegaard looking likely to leave the club in the near future.

It would appear that these suggestions may well be true, with this report suggesting that United officials and Valdes’ representatives are set to thrash out a deal that would bring Valdes to Old Trafford on a full time basis, potentially as a replacement for de Gea if interest from Real Madrid materialises next summer.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Valdes to provide competition for underperforming Belgian number one Simon Mignolet, but it would appear that Louis van Gaal is set to beat them to the punch for the Spanish international.
