Villa has since departed and City have only won once game since – a 3-1 victory over reigning champions Brisbane Roar.
Sydney FC have gone from strength to strength having gone unbeaten this season so far.
However, the Sky Blues will now be without striker Corey Gameiro for the rest of the season after the 21-year-old ruptured his ACL while away with the Olyroos.
Graham Arnold’s side will have to put the disappointment behind them as they face a City side desperate for a first home win.
