Berahino is the highest scoring English in the Premier League so far this season and has really caught the eye with the impressively diverse range of goals that he has bagged for Alan Irvine’s side, although both he and the team have gone off the boil slightly in recent weeks with just one win in five matches.

That pales into insignificance compared to the struggles in front of goal endured by Brendan Rodgers’ team so far, however, with summer signing Mario Balotelli having entirely failed to live up to his £16 million price tag and Daniel Sturridge having missed most of the season through injury.

With Sturridge continuing to be dogged by fitness issues it looks likely that Liverpool will have to dip into the market for a new man in January and Berahino could well fit the bill, with the Burundi born goalscorer fitting into Rodgers’ ethos of building for the future.
