Liverpool are mentioned as one of a number of clubs ready to challenge Arsenal for the signing of out-of-favour Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech this January, according to the Daily Mail.

The 32-year-old is seemingly available on a cut-price deal this winter, with the Blues ready to let their second choice shot-stopper call an end to a long and successful career at Stamford Bridge for just £7m.

Cech has long been regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world after his continued superb performances have helped Chelsea to a long list of honours during his time with the club.

However, with Belgian youngster Thibaut Courtois taking his place as number one in Jose Mourinho’s side this season, Arsenal have recently been linked as favourites to snap him up in a surprise move.

However, Liverpool are also in need of a new signing in goal and could join the race for Cech, while other big clubs such as Real Madrid, AS Roma and AC Milan have also been credited with an interest.

Chelsea would surely rather sell a top player abroad rather than to a rival, though they have sold some big names to other Premier League sides in the recent past, including Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata.
