Ronaldo and James prove too good for the Basque minnows.

Real Madrid have leapfrogged bitter local rivals Atletico to move back to the summit of La Liga after a resounding 4-0 victory against Basque minnows Eibar, with the displays of Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez proving to be the paltform on which Carlo Ancelotti’s side were able to power to victory.

Eibar have proved to be a tough nut to crack for some much bigger clubs in Spain’s top flight this season and, during the early stages of this match, they looked to be well organised and disciplined and capable of causing some trouble for their illustrious visitors.

Once that resistance was broken, however, Eibar crumbled and allowed Real to take control of the game. The breakthrough for the visitors came through in-form Colombian James Rodriguez, who headed home smartly at the far post after a fine clip following a bit of pinball in the Eibar box:

Unsurprisingly, this did open this floodgates and Real bagged their second goal before half time through Ballon d’Or favourite Cristiano Ronaldo, who bent home a stunning effort from the edge of the box much to the delight of his manager Ancelotti:

The second half became something of a non-event as Real dominated possession and chances whilst also being content to see the game through, although they would add two more goals to their total after the break.

The first came when Karim Benzema converted after wonderful work from that man Rodriguez, whilst Ronaldo also continues to add to his burgeoning personal goals tally when he tucked home from the spot to round off an entirely satisfactory night for the La Liga leaders. In this form, are Ancelotti’s side now clear favourites for the title?
