Robin van Persie’s Poor Performance Vs Arsenal Pushes Him Closer To Manchester United Exit

Does Robin van Persie’s woeful performance against Arsenal signal the end of his time at Manchester United?

The fact that Robin van Persie had an awful game probably won’t comfort Arsenal fans too much, with the devastating loss against Manchester United on Saturday evening still freshly etched in their minds.

But the Dutchman’s inability to motivate himself and pull out a performance against his former side really illustrates the decline he is in at the moment.

The ex-Gunners striker managed just 12 touches of the ball at the Emirates Stadium, only one of which was in the opposition’s box.

Three of these were corners, meaning he took just nine touches in open play throughout the match. He was anonymous for most of the game, and was eventually substituted for promising youngster James Wilson.

The Dutch international also managed just two successful passes, five less than Man United keeper David de Gea in the first half alone.

There have long been rumours that the forward could be on his way out of Old Trafford soon, with Louis van Gaal having concerns over his ability to continue at the highest level for much longer.

At 31-years-old he is already beginning to look past it at times, and with his wages somewhere in the region of £250,000 per week he would be a very expensive passenger.
