Big things were expected of Monaco after a massive cash injection saw them bring the likes of James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao to the club. Things haven’t panned out quite the way they would have hoped however, and with Rodriguez and Falcao both already gone, Moutinho could soon follow.

The Ligue 1 side are currently eighth in the table, 11 points adrift of league leaders Marseille and looking nowhere near challenging for silverware.

Falcao and Rodriguez were important parts of last season’s title challenge, and Moutinho believes by selling the Colombian duo the club are going backwards.

Reports from France claim that the Portuguese midfielder has officially handed in a transfer request, with a number of Premier League clubs interested in his signature.

The 28-year-old is reportedly seen by Arsene Wenger as the perfect replacement for Mikel Arteta, although the Gunners boss may not be impressed at the £25m Monaco are asking for the player.
