The Ex-Liverpool star is relying on a late appeal to allow him to play in the Copa America next year, but Valdez admits that it is unlikely to be successful.

He revealed that talks were ongoing between the Uruguayan FA and Fifa, but also that he remains realistic about their chances of reversing the decision.

“We are still negotiating this issue with Fifa, but we almost have ran out of options, and the truth is that it will be a miracle if Luis can play at the Copa America,” Valdez said.

Suarez was banned for eight competitive matches after biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil this summer, a ban which is supposed to extend into the Copa America.

Uruguay have lost just once since their World Cup exit in the last 16, losing a friendly against Costa Rica on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

They have so far managed to beat Japan, South Korea, Oman, and Chile, while also drawing with Saudi Arabia.
