Pellegrini is keen on bringing in another central defender signing and given that Kongolo’s younger brother Rodney is already at the Etihad stadium one imagines the Dutch international would be keen to move to the Premier League side.

Kongolo can play at centre-back or at left-back and was part of Louis van Gaal’s 2014 World Cup squad and is considered one of the hottest young prospects in European football.

Man City invested £32m in Eliaqium Mangala over the summer but the FC Porto man hasn’t been all that impressive when called upon whilst young Serbian Matija Nastasic hasn’t played a single minute of first team action this season and as such one can see why Pellegrini would look to boost his back-line.
