The FCM Targu Mures midfielder inflicted a zygomatic bone fracture on Steaua Bucharest Raul Rusescu, with the forward almost having to have his eye removed according to doctors.

According to this Tweet from Romanian football scout Radu Baicu, on top of his already lengthy ban, Muresan has claimed he will bench himself for as long as it takes for Rusescu to recover from the injury.

The incident can be seen in the second of two terrible fouls in the video below; both players going for an aerial ball when Muresan’s elbow connects horribly with Rusescu’s face.

Many felt the 16-game ban was a little excessive, especially as the referee during the match deemed it only worthy of a yellow card. Muresan understandably feels terrible about the injury he has inflicted on his fellow professional however, so bad that he is willing to sit out until Rusescu returns.
