Louis van Gaal’s side secured a vital 2-1 win over their Premier League rivals, but for large parts of the game things looked to be going to Gunners’ way.

Arsenal controlled the ball in the first half, and should have scored on a number of occasions. As is often the case with Arsene Wenger’s side however, they failed to make their dominance count, and were punished in the second half.

A Kieran Gibbs own goal swung the advantage the visitors’ way, before a counter attacking goal was finished off by Wayne Rooney to all but seal the victory.

Olivier Giroud scored a fantastic goal on his return from injury, but it wasn’t enough to give Arsenal anything from the game.

The Manchester United players are under no illusions about how tough the match was though, with Ashley Young admitting his side were fortunate to be in the position they were at the break.

“We felt we were lucky to go in at half-time at 0-0,” he said.

“We came out in the second half and started to play, we got the goal and I didn’t think Arsenal would score after that.”
