The United full-back made his comments in the wake of Liverpool’s miserable 3-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

“Liverpool’s performance was woeful for Liverpool,” he said.

“When you think of the standard that they set themselves last year, that’s what is damaging them at this point in time.

“I think a few of them need taking out and need a rest.

“This looks to me like a team who are carrying led legs, and that comes from lacking in confidence.

“These players are mentally struggling and physically struggling.”

The Reds face a tricky clash with Bulgarian side Ludogorets this week – a game that they must win if they are to stand any chance of progressing to the next round of the Champions League.
