In a perplexing decision for both Sneijder and the fans the 30-year-old was omitted altogether from the squad as Gala lost 3-0 to Trabzonspor on Saturday.

The Netherlands international was not happy with the decision by manager Cesare Prandelli and his agent Guido Albers says his client is seeking crunch talks with the Italian boss.

This has attracted interest from Old Trafford where the Red Devils have shown interest in Sneijder for some time and they may look to give the Dutchman an escape route to England.

United manager Louis van Gaal knows his fellow countryman well from their time spent working together with the Netherlands national team and that relationship could be rekindled at the Theatre of Dreams.

Sneijder has had an interesting career to date with varied success across Europe. The midfield ace started life in his home nation with Ajax before a high profile switch to Real Madrid beckoned in 2007.

However, he could never settle at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and a move to Inter Milan followed where he won the treble in 2010 and then was later frozen out and headed to Turkey in January 2013.
