Mikel Arteta’s calf injury will keep him ‘out for a while’, confirmed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, following the Gunners 2-0 Champions League home win against Borussia Dortmund.

Reports in the Daily Mail confirmed that Arteta had to come off after picking up the injury, taking the shine off an otherwise excellent evening for the North London side, which saw them book their place in the competitions knockout stages for a 15th consecutive season.

Yaya Sanogo, who scored the first goal of the night after just two minutes, also limped off after a recurrence of the hamstring injury which had kept him out for several weeks prior to the game.

“The injury situation is a problem because we have many games,” said Wenger. Jack Wilshere is also expected to be out for some time after sustaining an injury of his own against Manchester United at the weekend.

Despite the issues, Wenger was in a positive mood after the game, and was full of praise for his players: “We focused really well. It was a committed game, and maybe defensively we were better tonight.

“We have done our job. We want now to focus on the Premier League and to wait now for who we get in the draw.”
