Tottenham’s star midfielder is confident his team can secure qualification to Europe’s premier competition…
Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has expressed his confidence that his team will secure qualification to next season’s Champions League, after moving to within two points of the top four.
Despite a stuttering start to the season, Spurs 2-1 win over Hull City moved them to within touching distance of fourth place Manchester United, while continued Europa League progress could also seem them reach the continent’s premier competition.
Reports in the Daily Mail carry quotes from Eriksen, admitted it had been ugly at times, but was adamant Tottenham can turn their season around and reach the Champions League — one way or another.
“We are just two points off the top four. The route to the Champions League by winning the Europa League is shorter but more difficult,” Eriksen said.
“The top four is definitely possible. When you see the teams who should normally be in the top six nowhere near, you realise everything can change and that the league is so tight.”
Manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted his team play with more freedom in the Europa League than in the Premier League, adding: “Maybe we are more confident in Europe, our feeling is more free, to play and show our skill. We need to try and show the same at home to Everton on Sunday.”
