Hat-trick hero could’ve been playing for Bavarian giants.

It has been revealed that Bayern Munich came close to signing Sergio Aguero for just £12m back in 2006 when he was still with Independiente, according to the Daily Mail.

The Argentine came back to haunt Bayern this week as his hat-trick for Manchester City saw the Premier League champions triumph 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero has had a great career in European football, starring for City since his big-money move from Atletico Madrid back in 2011, and it was the Spanish side he ended up joining after deciding to leave his native Argentina.

Still, Bayern held talks with Independiente over his possible transfer, though they were put off by his £12m price tag, with the player still only 17 at the time and perhaps too much of a gamble at that price.

The 26-year-old’s value will be far higher than that now, however, with the player establishing himself as one of the best strikers in the world in recent years, helping City to two Premier League titles and the Capital One Cup during his time with the club.

Bizarrely, it has also been claimed that then-Bayern boss Felix Magath felt Aguero was too lazy after watching him play.
