La Liga giants have accepted that the German midfielder could be leaving as early as January, and have turned their attention to Cruzeiro star Lucas Silva.

It is believed that a £9.5m offer has been put on the table, although Cruzeiro are thought to want closer to £12m.

The 21-year-old is viewed as the perfect replacement for the 2014 World Cup winner, who looks set for a Premier League switch in the coming months.

Chelsea are reportedly set to offer Khedira a pre-contract in January, offering a huge wage to keep him away from London rivals Arsenal.

Bayern Munich are also thought to be interested, but with the 27-year-old keen on a move to London it looks to be a straight race between the Premier League duo.
