The former Manchester United star had a knee injury which kept him out of the Gunners’ midweek Champions League fixture against Borussia Dortmund, but Arsene Wenger hopes he will be available for their trip to West Brom.

Yaya Sanogo led the line on Wednesday, but with the Frenchman picking up an injury in the second half he will almost certainly be unavailable this weekend.

Olivier Giroud was ineligible for the match after the North Londoners failed to register him in their Champions League squad; Wenger assuming the big target man would be out until the New Year.

Having returned with a bang against United, Giroud is likely to start against West Brom, but the boss will still be hoping Welbeck is at least able to make the bench.
