Manchester United winger Ashley Young is dreaming of more than just a top four finish this season, saying he and his team-mates are aiming to catch Chelsea and challenge for the Premier League title, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Red Devils are already 13 points behind the current leaders, and have not looked convincing this term as they continue to ponder life without the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

United finished a shockingly low 7th last season after struggling badly under David Moyes, and while there has been some improvement under Louis van Gaal, they perhaps still look a long way off competing with Jose Mourinho’s superb-looking Blues side.

Chelsea remain unbeaten in the league so far, but Young has taken some confidence from the direction the club are moving in under their new manager, and says that it is natural for everyone at Old Trafford to have high expectations and think beyond just qualifying for the Champions League.

“I think the manager has said obviously we want to break that top four,” he said.

“But you know players and staff at the club, we want to win the league title.”

The 29-year-0ld added that United usually improve around the second half of the season and that that could work in their favour as they look to mount an unlikely challenge for top spot.

“I think that’s when we’re at our best,” he said. “At the turn of the year we always come strong.”
