The teenager looks set to miss the rest of the calender year, with an injury suffered against Arsenal turning out to be far worse than originally thought.

After twisting his ankle in a collision with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaw was thought to be facing just a few weeks out. He has had a rather unfortunate setback however, is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The £27m signing only adds to the defensive crisis United are currently in the midst of, with a number of key players already missing with injuries of their own.

Shaw missed the start of the season with a hamstring injury, and was criticised over his fitness by Louis van Gaal. After making a return to action he staked his claim for a starting spot in the Dutchman’s team however, so this new injury will be a severe blow to the youngster.
