The Brazilian was already undergoing a six-month ban from football for the assault, but has now seen jail time added to his list of punishments.
34-year-old Brandao left the Italian star with a broken nose, waiting for him in the tunnel after PSG’s 2-0 win in August before headbutting him.
Here is the video that shows the assault:
Brandao’s lawyer expects the player to serve his sentence through community service rather than jail time.
He claimed that Motta had insulted him on the pitch, and that he told the Ligue 1 man that he would be waiting for him in the tunnel after the game.
The threat wasn’t taken seriously by the PSG midfielder, with Motta telling the police, “On the pitch Brandao said he’d be waiting for me afterwards, but I never thought he’d actually do it.”
The prosecution were originally pushing for an eight-month suspended sentence and a £11,888 fine; so he may have got off lightly in the end.
