Respected Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who works for Sky Italia, has written an exclusive for This Is Anfield, in which he’s introduced a new goalkeeper into the rumour mill to replace Simon Mignolet at Liverpool…

While Romano has admitted that Liverpool are considering a Bosman move for Fiorentina’s Brazilian Neto, he claims that the Reds are also looking at young Italian stopper Mattia Perin – Rated at €12-€15m.

The 22-year-old currently plies his trade for Genoa, and strong performances this term have earned him a call-up to the Italy squad, where he won his first cap.

As a result, many are predicting he’ll be Gianluigi Buffon’s long-term replacement, with the Juventus legend approaching his late thirties.

Perrin stands at 6 ft. 2″, and prides himself on his ‘cat-like reflexes’. He’s commanding, but prefers to punch rather than catch – which has cost keepers in the Premier League in the past due to the physicality of the competition and the regularity of crosses put into the box.

As a replacement for the woefully out of form Simon Mignolet though, many Reds fans would be delighted if a transfer went through in January – although Romano doesn’t state if a bid is imminent.

The Metro claimed back in October that a transfer was unlikely, but Romano doesn’t seem to share this view.
