The free-scoring Colombian international has attracted plenty of interest from top clubs in recent years, having shown himself to be a top goalscorer with a highly impressive record for the Portuguese giants.

Martinez has 73 goals in 108 games for Porto, showing that he can find the back of the net with ease, and this superb ability in front of goal could make him an ideal signing for either Liverpool or Arsenal this season.

The Reds in particular look in need of inspiration upfront after losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona this summer, while an injury to Daniel Sturridge and the poor form of £16m signing Mario Balotelli has also derailed their season fo far.

Although Martinez would be expensive at £40m, it looks as though Brendan Rodgers would be willing to pay that much to land the talented 28-year-old in an attempt to save his side’s season.

However, Arsenal are also interested and want new signings to improve on the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck in attack.
