Manchester United must decide whether or not to offer Javier Hernandez a new contract in January, after Real Madrid revealed they would not be signing him on a permanent basis, reports the Express.

With the Mexican international’s contract expiring in 2016, Louis van Gaal will be left with a player in the final year of his contract. The Dutchman therefore needs to decide whether to tie the player down to a new deal or let him go for peanuts next summer.

Sir Alex paid just £6m for the striker in 2010, and while he had a fantastic goals ratio for Manchester United he was never able to maintain a starting spot in the team.

He joined Real Madrid on a season long loan in the summer, and has looked impressive during his cameo roles for the club. He has naturally been a bit part player in La Liga as well, and it would appear as though if he wants regular first team football he will have to take a step down.

And with Madrid refusing the chance to make him a permanent fixture at the Bernabeu he will more than likely get that chance next season.
