The 26 year old Man United man has made just one La Liga start this season, though has netted three goals, and reports suggest that the Bernabeu side will not take up the option to bring in Hernandez when his season long loan spell ends, leaving the door open to Spurs.

Louis van Gaal does not see Hernandez as part of his first team plans and a move to sell Hernandez to a Premier League rival and providing the offer is amenable a sale this summer is likely.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring in an effective goal-scorer to help boost his attack and the likes of Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor’s continued frustrations in front of goal will see the Argentine target Hernandez.

The north London side are thought to be ready to offer £16m for the Man United man who’s proven Premier League record is thought to have been additional motivation for a Tottenham bid.

Hernandez’s record of 59 goals in 154 appearances is all the more impressive when you consider 69 of those appearances were from the bench.
