The veteran keeper is said to be frustrated at the Bernabeu despite having been drafted back into the starting spot at the Spanish giants having spent much of the past two years warming the bench.

Brendan Rodgers may well feel the need to replace current first choice starter Simon Mignolet after a series of poor showings from the Belgian and by all accounts could land Casillas for a fee as low as £4m.

Casillas has also come in for a fair amount of criticism over the past few months with his abilities called into question during this summer’s World Cup finals and despite Real Madrid’s excellent start to the season it’s worth noting that Carlo Ancelotti’s side have conceded twice as many La Liga goals as arch rivals Barcelona.
