The former Manchester United man claimed after leaving Villa on Friday that he wanted to focus on his position with the Republic of Ireland as assistant to Martin O’Neill.

Many were sceptical of his reasons however, especially seeing as the next round of internationals is not until March.

Reports have begun to circulate that the real reason he left was due to rising tensions with a number of senior players at Villa, with the whole thing coming to a head and resulting in a training ground row.

The Premier League club rubbished suggestions of a bust up, but refused to comment on Keane during their post match conference following their 1-1 draw against Burnley.

Despite a fantastic start to the season, Villa currently find themselves in 16th place. They are teetering on the edge of the relegation zone and if the fans get their way then Paul Lambert may soon be following Keane out the door.
