Saints line up January offer for Burnley striker Danny Ings.
Southampton are looking to capitalise on their strong start to the Premier League season by strengthening their squad in January with the signing of England Under 21 international striker Danny Ings, report the Mirror, as Ronald Koeman looks to give Graziano Pelle and Shane Long competition in the attacking positions.
The Saints will have to spend big to sign a player who they release when he was a schoolboy, however, with three goals in his last two games for Burnley having indicated that the former Bournemouth forward is capable of making the step up to Premier League football.
The Clarets are likely to feel that the goals of Ings are the best chance of securing a surprise season of survival under Sean Dyche and it could well take a huge bid for Southampton to succeed in signing Ings after their advances were spurned in the summer.
Injured England international Jay Rodriguez is set to return to the first team fold at St. Mary’s in the near future, but he could be coveted by Spurs, meaning that Koeman seems keen to bring in attacking reinforcements to bolder his overachieving squad.
