The south-coast side released Ings as a schoolboy before the forward then got his career into gear at Bournemouth before switching to Turf Moor in 2011.

The England Under 21 international racked up 26 goals last term to help Sean Dyche’s side secure Premier League football and his run of four goals in five games has proven the Hampshire born ace is capable of making an impact at the highest level.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman is concerned about the long term fitness of England international Jay Rodriguez and sees Ings as a player who can offer support to summer signing Graziano Pelle.

One imagines a January move may prove tricky but should Burnley fail to stay up then a move back to his former club may well entice Ings.
