There had been rumours that the midfielder could move to the Gunners in the January. However, the Catalan has made it clear that the Irishman won’t be leaving Goodison Park anytime soon.

“Jamesie is someone that we rate very highly otherwise you would not have seen the investment we made in him. He is a typical Everton player. He has got a long term contract. I enjoy seeing the compliments we get. We look forward to seeing him as an Everton player for a long time,” Martinez told reporters.

This will be a blow to the North London club as they continue their efforts to make up for the mistakes they made in the summer transfer window. They didn’t sign a centre-back or a defensive midfielder, and are now paying the price as players are having to play out of position to make up for their deficiencies.

Meanwhile, the Toffees will be happy to hear this news as their squad is already stretched due to European football, and they would find it difficult to replace McCarthy in the January transfer window. The 24-year-old is currently injured with a hamstring problem, and will be looking to try and get fit for the Blues’ game with Manchester City on Saturday.
