Barely a week after Mike Mulvey’s sacking six weeks into their title defence, the Roar have been hit with the loss of their key man.

Broich was injured in his side’s 1-1 draw with Perth on Saturday and did not travel with the squad that will take on the Western Sydney Wanderers on Wednesday night.

“With the heavy load of matches we have coming up, it was decided not to risk aggravating the injury any further by Thomas continuing to play,” Brisbane Roar interim coach Frans Thijssen said.

“To lose a player of Thomas’ calibre is not ideal but it presents an opportunity for another player to step up and cement a place in our starting line-up.”
