The Uruguay international has long been regarded as one of the most deadly centre-forwards in Europe, though he has not always been at his best since moving to PSG from Napoli last summer.

Still, big clubs in England are seemingly desperate to sign him if he does become available, and could make bids of around £50m to snap him up.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal could do with strengthening upfront, with the Reds in particular need of a top class replacement for Luis Suarez, who left Anfield for a move to Barcelona during the summer.

This could come as a blow for United, who have also been monitoring Cavani’s uncertain situation at the Parc des Princes with some interest, as Louis van Gaal looks to continue his trend of spending big on established names.
