Martin Montoya angling for a Premier League transfer.

Out of favour Barcelona right back Martin Montoya is keen to push through a January transfer away from the Nou Camp, report the Express, with both Arsenal and Liverpool believed to be interested in securing a deal for the Spaniard – despite the fact that the Catalan club are desperate for him to stay.

Montoya is only the third choice right back at Barcelona behind the likes of experienced Brazilian superstar Dani Alves and wants to leave the Nou Camp in search of regular first team football, but bosses at the club see the 23 year-old as a potential star of the future and someone who could become a regular at the club in coming seasons.

This seems to have led to something of an impasse, with Montoya seemingly desperate to leave and find the regular first team action that he has been denied since breaking through from the club’s much vaunted La Masia academy system.

Barcelona, however, hold plenty of cards in negotiations as Montoya remains under contract with the club for another four years, which could inflate any potential fee that they hold out for – despite the fact that the club signed Brazilian right back Douglas from Sao Paulo in the summer, pushing Montoya further back in the pecking order.
