How Manchester United Will Spend Their Huge £135m Budget – Gareth Bale And Marco Reus Among Wishlist

Aymeric Laporte

This 20-year-old defender has been causing quite a stir in La Liga with his impressive performances and United think he could be a great option at the back. However, Laporte’s age and reputation means the Frenchman won’t come cheap.

Cost: £32m.

Kevin Strootman

Van Gaal has worked with this AS Roma midfielder before with the Dutch national team and it’s widely reported Strootman wants a reunion with the 63-year-old. The midfielder has only just recovered from a cruciate ligament injury though so could be a risk.

Cost: £30m.

Diego Godin

Another central defender Man United have their eye on, although at 28-years-old Godin is an older option than Hummels. Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has dismissed reports of the Uruguay international leaving, but his club do have a reputation of selling their best players.

Cost: £25m.

Nathaniel Clyne

Having impressed at Southampton and is now considered England’s No.1 choice at right-back, this 23-year-old could be the ideal signing for van Gaal. Clyne has really progressed with the Saints in recent times and could be a shrewd buy.

Cost: £20m.
