The 25 year old French international will miss today’s encounter between the two sides but is known to be a player who interests Jose Mourinho and Magpies boss Alan Pardew fears he could be the latest star player to be lured away from St James’ Park.

‘We have not had contact from anybody else or heard from anybody else, but I take the point (he could be a target for others),’ said Pardew,

‘He is playing for a club where big clubs have come before and taken players away. I understand that so therefore, I guess, he is a player they will be looking at.

Newcastle United paid just £1.5m for Sissoko in January 2013 and would undoubtedly fetch a much larger fee if he were to follow fellow countrymen Mathieu Debuchy and Yohan Cabaye to Toon Army exit.

Sissoko is a regular in Didier Deschamps’ national team set-up but may be interested in a high-profile move that could secure a taste of Champions League action though it’s not instantly obvious as to how the marauding midfielder would fit into the Chelsea starting eleven given the presence of the likes of Nemanja Matic, Ramires and John Obi Mikel.
