Chelsea Join £19.6m Race For Borussia Dortmund Star Marco Reus

Blues the latest club to become interested in Reus.

Chelsea have joined their Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City in the protracted chase of Borussia Dortmund and Germany forward Marco Reus, report the Daily Star, as interest in the dynamic attacker hots up ahead of the activation of a £19.6 million release clause at the end of the season.

Chelsea are well stocked for players operating in the attacking midfield positions being regular lone striker Diego Costa, with Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian the preferred combination of Jose Mourinho – but the report suggests that the Blues view signing Reus at such a bargain basement price as an opportunity that it would be foolish to allow to pass them by.

Both City and Arsenal, as well as Dortmund’s fierce Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, have also been linked with a move for Reus, who looks almost certain to depart struggling Dortmund at the end of the campaign, with Jurgen Klopp’s side only having hauled themselves off the bottom of the Bundesliga table with a narrow victory over Hoffenheim at Signal Iduna Park on Friday night.

There is some speculation that the clause only applies to foreign clubs, potentially meaning that Bayern will not be able to tempt Reus into following Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze in moving from Dortmund to the Allianz Arena, and opening the door for the English clubs.
