According to the Daily Mirror, Louis van Gaal has some concerns over the player’s fitness after he only recently returned from a lengthy injury layoff, and his valuation of the player does not match Roma’s £60m asking price.

United only want to pay around half that, and the Red Devils are hopeful that if the Italian side are knocked out of the Champions League group stages, they may be unable to command such a high asking price for their playmaker.

Strootman only joined Roma last season but has quickly established himself as a top performer in Serie A, though he may look to leave the club if they do not manage to find success in Europe this term.

This would see United ready to pounce, and they will be relying on rivals Manchester City to help eliminate Roma from the Champions League.
