Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has made his mind up over the Italian’s future, or lack thereof, at the Merseyside club and did so even before the striker was charged by the FC for his offensive instagram post.

Rodgers can’t afford to sell the forward in January as doing so would leave him short of options up front and will instead seek a buyer for the former AC Milan man at the end of the current campaign.

On the subject of the signing of Balotelli Rodgers has recently stated;

“As a club we felt that was the solution at the time,” said Rodgers.

“After Luis Suarez had gone we had Rickie Lambert, and Fabio Borini was looking as though 100 per cent he was gone. Daniel Sturridge has shown that he gets injuries. So, to go with no one would have been very difficult for us.”

These statements appear to suggest Rodgers is looking to justify a decision he can now see has backfired in a big way.

The 24 year old signing is yet to score a single Premier League goal and the £16m investment in his services is beginning to look like an expensive mistake.
