The 23-year-old right-back has been in superb form for the Saints this season, playing a key role in Ronald Koeman’s side’s best-ever start to a top flight campaign.

Clyne has shown great defensive awareness as well as superb ability going forward from right-back, and is supposedly now on Louis van Gaal’s radar as he looks to continue his overhaul of the first-team squad at Old Trafford.

Southampton and United play each other in their next Premier League game, but Koeman was relaxed when asked about the speculation surrounding Clyne’s future and a possible move to their next opponents.

“If I have to be worried about those kind of rumours, then I will be worried every day and I don’t like that,” he said. “I like my life and I like to be positive. It’s no issue.”

Clyne’s current contract at the St Mary’s Stadium runs until 2016, and it could be that he will be rewarded handsomely with a new deal to commit his future to the south coast club.
