Liverpool Legend Slams Reports That Chelsea Flop Could Take Over At Anfield

Brendan Rodgers may soon be out of a job, but Liverpool legend Danny Murphy has slammed reports suggesting Chelsea flop Andre Villas-Boas will be his successor…

Danny Murphy has slated reports that Zenit St Petersburg manager Andre Villas-Boas could be set to replace Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, claiming that the Merseyside club would have no interest in a manager who has already failed at both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Standard.

Villas-Boas endured unsuccessful spells at both London clubs before making the move to the Russian league, yet he is still being touted as a replacement for Rodgers.

The Merseyside club have gotten off to a disastrous start this season, and even face the prospect of not qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League if they fail to beat FC Basel on Tuesday.

Despite Rodgers almost guiding his side to the Premier League title last season, he has failed to adequately replace the goals lost after Luis Suarez moved to Barcelona, and consequently has seen his position at the club steadily growing more tenuous.

Murphy has rubbished the reports however, and believes that Rodgers is the right man for the job at Anfield.

“Brendan deserves to keep his job,” he said.

“It would be a shock if he does go.

“If for some reason he does, AVB would not be on the list of 20 managers to replace him at Liverpool, never mind be the number one.

“It’s ridiculous. He failed at Chelsea, he failed at Tottenham. Why would you take him at Liverpool?”
