Liverpool Quoted £4m For Experienced Right Back Target

Reds could look to strengthen with Maxi Pereira in January.

Liverpool have been quoted a fee of £4 million if they want to bring experienced Uruguayan right back Maxi Pereira to Anfield in the January transfer window, report the Metro, rather than waiting until next summer to sign the Benfica star on a free transfer as their replacement for out-of-contract England international Glen Johnson.

Johnson’s performances have continued to decline this season and he has received plenty of flack from the club’s supporters for his below part displays, despite scoring a brave winner in the recent 1-0 success against Stoke City at Anfield.

The former Chelsea and Portsmouth right back is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to leave the club on a free transfer, with neither party looking particularly keen on extending his deal, meaning that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is expected to be testing the waters for a new right back.

Pereira is an experienced campaigner and long time international who would fit the bill on a short term basis, with the Uruguayan looking likely to leave the Estade de Luz in Lisbon after failing to agree a new contract with Portuguese champions and Europa League runners up Benfica.
