Chairman Daniel Levy will hand Pochettino £20m to invest in his squad and the Argentine will offload players to help boost his transfer pot.

Top of Pochettino’s list of targets are his former Saints charges Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez, though one wonders if either player would be keen to leave Ronald Koeman’s side given Southampton’s superb start to the season.

The Spurs boss is also keen to strenghten his defence and has earmarked a move for Napoli centre-back Raul Albiol with Pochettino no doubt being well aware of the Spaniard’s capabilities from their shared time in La Liga.

Pochettino spent modestly over the summer with the £22m invested in new additions being covered by the £30m+ accrued from sales and as such the Tottenham manager will hope to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood when the transfer window reopens next month.
