The 21-year-old has headed the wish lists of a number of Premier League sides this season thanks to his impressive form, but Arsene Wenger was tipped as favourite to land his signature in the January transfer window.

The player himself had recently expressed his joy at being linked with a move to north London by saying: “I can’t deny that going to Arsenal and playing in the Premier League would be great, but at the moment I’m a Palermo player.

“Different news stories keep coming out, but my thoughts are only occupied by Torino at the weekend.

However, with Palermo not wanting to sell for a penny less than his £31m valuation, he has seemingly backtracked by pledging his future to the Sicilian giants.

“With the director and with Zamparini we are talking about renewal, I think it will come to an agreement,”

“The president said I’m worth 40 million? I do not think, my duty is to take the field.”
