By all accounts Brendan Rodgers has not been put off recent unwanted attention the Ivory Coast international has garnered in the tabloid press and may feel that the Magpies star could offer some added steel in the centre of his Anfield midfield.

Despite Newcastle United’s strong start to the season Tiote may still feel a high-profile move to a side who can offer him Champions League action would benefit his career progression.

Rodgers only out and out defensively minded midfielder, Lucas Leiva, has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and has started just five of Liverpool’s 15 Premier League fixtures this term so a move for Tiote seems logical.

Tiote has proven a bargain buy since his £3.5m move from FC Twente back in 2010.
