Liverpool Miss Out As Real Madrid Look Set To Sign Brazil’s Most Exciting Prospect

Posted by

Premier League sides are apparently going to miss out on a very good-looking deal for Cruzeiro’s star player…

Real Madrid are on the verge of signing Lucas Silva, and as Marca point out, it’s a deal that has more than just tactical implications.

The defensive midfielder has been a key part of the Cruzeiro side that has dominated the Brazilian championship in the last two years, and with Sami Khedira on his way out of the Bernabeu, Real are apparently interested in making a January bid.

Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal have also been linked with the defensive midfielder, but their enquiries look to have been surpassed by Madrid’s interest.

Real are always interested in the commercial implications of their transfer dealings, and the club’s hierarchy are all too aware that they are not exploiting the enormous, football obsessed and increasingly wealthy Brazilian market to it’s maximum at the moment.

Marcelo is the only Brazilian in the Real squad currently, and signing Silva, who is becoming a media sensation in his homeland, would generate huge support for Madrid in South America.

Silva was voted the sexiest player in Brazil earlier this year by TV network Globo, and if he continues to develop on the pitch he could begin to rival Neymar as the dominant Brazilian footballer in commercial terms.

With Khedira off, Xabi Alonso gone and Luka Modric out injured, he might even come in handy on the pitch too…
