Reports suggest that Van Gaal has asked United to do everything they can to bring Robben back to the Premier League, where he previously had a spell at Chelsea.

The Dutch winger has been a key figure behind Bayern’s steady rise to prominence in recent years and the Bundesliga outfit are adamant on keeping hold of him despite him approaching his 31st birthday.

However, reports have suggested that their stance could change should Robben express a desire to move on in the new year.

And Van Gaal is hoping that Robben will want to link up with him at United to replicate the relationship they enjoyed with the Dutch national team and will tempt the German giants with a fresh £24m move.
