The 31-year-old scored twice as his side beat Southampton 2-1 on Monday night. The three points lifted them in to the third place in the Premier League, and an automatic Champions League qualification place.

The brace followed a goal against Hull City two games ago which means that he has scored three in three in reaction to criticism over his place in the starting XI a couple of weeks ago.

“I’ve been feeling very well over the last couple of weeks. Physically, I can make my runs over and over again. I had a feeling that it was coming,” he told reporters.

“Last week, I was thinking against Stoke that I had a really good feeling; I was feeling fit. Although I had a good feeling, not everything came together in that game. I can play 90 minutes easy and every time it gets easier. I could keep going in the last minutes and that’s what you want. Then the goals, assists and wins will come. I just have to keep it going and play more.”

He added, “The next game is Liverpool, so we’re looking forward to that. We are really happy that we are on the way up now. We have to keep the momentum going.”

The Red Devils will be looking to pile further misery on to Liverpool as they endure a tough start to the season and lie in ninth in the table. This is in contrast to Louis van Gaal’s side, who have won their last five on the bounce and have even started some talk over whether they can challenge for the title.
