Magpies considering a move for Anderlecht star Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Newcastle United are looking to continue their stellar recent record of sounding out gems from the continent by making a January move for prolific Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, report the Mail, with club scouts having been keeping close tabs on the form of the powerful 20 year-old centre forward.

Mitrovic scored during Anderlecht’s astonishing comeback from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League recently and the Serbian international impressed in both games against the Gunners, displays that can only have allowed his stock amongst Premier League managers including Alan Pardew to rise further.

Papiss Cisse, who scored twice against Chelsea at the weekend as the Magpies completed a famous win over Jose Mourinho’s previously unbeaten blues, is the only genuine out-and-out striker that Newcastle have, with impressive young Spaniard Ayoze Perez preferring to operate in a deeper, more withdrawn role.

This appears to have motivated Pardew to sound out a new option to help share the burden of leading the line with Cisse – and Mitrovic is the name that he and chief scout Graham Carr have landed at, but they may have to pay big to land the Serbian as he is valued at £15 million by Belgian champions Anderlecht.
